Peritoneal Flap Vaginoplasty
Dr. Jun specializes in Robotic-Assisted Peritoneal Flap Vaginoplasty, an innovative method developed at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Jun offers this procedure for both primary and repair cases (e.g. vaginal stenosis). Peritoneal Vaginoplasty has the potential to offer a number of benefits:
- Lower risk of complications such as rectal fistula and vaginal prolapse
- Self-lubricating lining with some elasticity
- More vaginal depth
- Requires less dilation and douching
- Requires less pre-op hair removal
- May be less risky than Sigmoid Colon Vaginoplasty, plus no odorous mucus discharge and no need to monitor colon pathology
Robotic-Assisted Peritoneal Vaginoplasty also reduces operative time by facilitating a dual-surgeon abdominal-perineal approach, lowering the risks associated with positioning-related complications, such as neuropathy.
How It Works: Learning the Robotic-Assisted Peritoneal Flap Vaginoplasty technique is one of the main reasons why Dr. Jun sought out fellowship training at NYU. The following videos, published through the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, document a live procedure that captures the incredible work that Dr. Jun and his mentors at NYU have accomplished.
